Millwood Breaks Ground for New High School

On November 12, 2008, officials from the Millwood Public School District, Oklahoma County Commissioner Willa Johnson, State Senator Connie Johnson, the district’s appointed architectural firm and general contractor gathered to break ground for the construction of the new Millwood High School.  The project is funded by a $6,775,000 bond issue approved in 2006 and 1.2 million dollars from MAPS for Kids,

Tremendous gratitude and reflections were the main themes at the ground breaking ceremony, attended by all current Millwood High School and Freshmen Academy students as well as interested patrons.

Among the speakers was Millwood Board president, who also is a Millwood High School graduate, Class of 1978, Sylester Steele.  “The old school will forever hold special memories for each of us, but it is time to move on to bigger and better things.”  She thanked the voters of the Millwood community for the continued support that makes capital improvement within the district possible.

Millwood High School Student Council President, Daron Stallworth, a senior, also reflected on his memories as a student of Millwood Public Schools since kindergarten and how he could not wait to get to high school.  “For the students who are the same age as I when I started wishing to be in high school, there is even more to look forward to with the new school being built.  The new building will not just give Millwood a new look, but it will re-shape the entire Millwood experience.”

Site preparation work is scheduled to begin immediately at the location.  Construction of the new facility is to be completed by the fall of 2010.
